Desperation

Preschool Pool

It is hot and I am trying to teach Bug and the little girls are fighting. What are Sunshine and SweetPea going to do? They have already put on every frilly dress and sequined costume in the dress-up drawer. Now they are wearing swimsuits. There’s an idea! While repeating to myself, “It doesn’t matter what the neighbors think,” I ask the girls,

Would you like to go swimming?

We don’t have a pool, but buckets will work just as well, if not better. This toddler friendly pool is chemical-free with very little maintenance. Five gallon buckets can be set up anywhere, including the playhouse. My mermaids are completely concealed until the neighbors hear the squeals of laughter.

Peace and happiness can be found in the simplest, sometimes creative, sometimes desperate, acts.

Hey, so long as it’s harmless fun, I say do whatever works! Yesterday, my 2 little ones played “rocket ship” on a tipped-over vacuum cleaner while I did some light housecleaning.

    tribeofautodidacts,
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it.

    Crimson Wife,
I agree, sometimes you just have to be pragmatic. I’ll have to try “rocket ship” next time.

Renae, my fondest memories from childhood are playing in barrels of water. No pool, we were dirt poor, just big barrels. I can’t believe how much fun we thought it was! Of course, I always dreamed of a pool, but still the barrels were a blast. I don’t consider your buckets a desperate act at all. It’s a creative mom with a good head on her shoulders!

Ha, ha. Great picture. It’s so hot here in Japan lately that I’d like to do that myself.

I’m all for peace and happiness! Wonder if that would work for adults? We’d need bigger buckets of course…

    Those babies are darling!

    Jennifer,
I hope that my children remember their buckets with fond memories as you have of yours. One of the best parts of motherhood is finding creative ways to enjoy life.

    Lisa,
I used to have a few 55 gallon drums. Thanks for the idea!

    Mandi,
Thank you! I bought a digital camera for myself last year for Christmas after my film camera quit. I have such better pictures now.

I remember doing this with my kids! Though I’d be hard pressed to get them into a bucket now. Actually, they each used to have a garden cart with wheels (the kind a gardener might sit on to weed). One day, they filled their carts with water (far from the intended use, I think) and sat in them at the TOP of our steep driveway (with bike helmets, of course) and careened downhill, laughing. Water is good stuff.

    Hi Renae!

Thanks for visiting my site: www.homelife.blogsome.com. I am glad you have been inspired by my response to that lady who commented about my being a fulltime homemaker. Nice to see your kids enjoyed the mini pool you had for them! I am touched with your profile, of how you really want to live life according to the biblical perspective. Blessings to you always! See you around..
